sand - dune sand - fine-grained yellow-brown dune sand derived from a sandstone member of the Menefee Formation in New Mexico - set of 5 tubes
$ 9.25
The Allison Member of the Upper Cretaceous Menefee Formation is a cliff-forming yellow brown sandstone. As it weathers, sand grains picked up by the wind form local small dunes north of Crownpoint, New Mexico. The grains in these dunes are very fine, similar in size to the grains in the pink dune sand that is derived from the Jurassic Navajo Sandstone in Utah.
It would be instructive for students to compare these two dune sands - both fine-grained but very different in color. Sand is derived from whatever materials are locally available, a lesson emphasized by these two very different colored dune sands.
Set of five tubes, 16 ml each, optically clear polystyrene with screw caps. The plastic tubes are practical in a classroom and are somewhat student resistant, though a cap can be unscrewed. Good for student examination.
